Biography

Dave Southern has been performing in the streets for over 40 years. As a juggler, unicyclist, comic and more recently as a musician and puppeteer. He was one of the original Covent Garden London performers in the early 1980’s and went on to be performer in residence at The Albert Dock in Liverpool. A former Manchester and Chester “Street Performer of The Year”

He is passionate about street performing and the opportunities it brings for community cohesion, retail prosperity and artistic expression. Turning down routes into stand up comedy or cabaret he has continued to perform in streets all over Europe and beyond and has been working at the Edinburgh Festival since 1987.

Dave is a former Director at Keep Streets Live, the national organisation that campaigns against the over regulation of public spaces. He continues to be an advocate for street performers and this work is part of an ongoing program to celebrate and promote this unique art form.
